STRATEGY | UX | UI

More and more people are choosing to represent themselves in the courts as a result of the cost of legal counsel. Whether the user is having an issue with their landlord, wondering how to settle a divorce or is confused about their rights in their situation, Steps to Justice provides them with the knowledge they need in order to work through the legal task they are facing.

Steps to Justice tasked us with creating a site that functioned in such a way that an overwhelmed user would be able to get the information they needed without adding any undue stress to their current situation.

Product design

Knowing that Steps to Justice’s users were likely to be overwhelmed, it was imperative to help them find the content they were looking for. The user journey needed to be as frictionless as possible and allow for the easiest access to the step-by-step guide. We set forth on crafting a user journey that made life that much easier for users.

User interface

The use of colour to create emotion quickly became an important part of the Interface Design. The varying shades of blue contribute to a calm demeanour for the Steps to Justice website. It was chosen to help sooth the overwhelmed minds of their users, while calling their attention to important pieces of information with gold elements.

Colours

With so many websites offering legal advice, it’s hard for a User to feel confident that the information they are reading is correct. Choosing darker blue tones sets an authoritative tone for the brand and instills confidence. The gold is representative of law enforcement badges and is used for actionable buttons and items within the company’s digital properties. The contrast between the blue and gold makes it easier to guide the User through the website.

Typography

Legal content can be very text heavy. Every font examined was eliminated if there was too much similarity between multiple letters, or if the spacing between letters caused the font to be illegible. Maison Neue is used for headings as it is easy to read and does not tire the reader’s eyes before they reach the text heavy content below. Serif12 Beta is used for body copy as it is easy to read and naturally guides the User’s eyes from word to word.
